Summary
EOS and its Thin Client were implemented on an OS/390 platform in 2000, in order to centrally manage the company's reports. Meeting the objective of rationalizing the information flow, this product suite enabled the company to substitute printing and physical delivery of output with automatic distribution and online access via a Web-enabled interface.

Overview

EOS and its Thin Client were implemented on a z/OS platform in 2000, in order to centrally manage the company’s reports. Meeting the objective of rationalizing the information flow, this product suite enabled the company to substitute printing and physical delivery of output with automatic distribution and online access via a Web-enabled interface.

From paper to electronic delivery in 6 months

Fast deployment was a determining factor for the customer: the preparation phase to sort the existing reports and define which to include in EOS was completed in three months; in just another three months EOS and the client interface were operational. EOS now centralizes and manages all output produced by the AXA’s mainframe applications, in line mode and AFP format. Generated reports are captured in EOS and processed for archival on the host and secure distribution to users via the Thin Client available from the company Intranet. Security is managed within EOS, which ensures that employees only view authorized reports.

Automated administration

AXA has not only taken advantage of the automation built-in to EOS to manage the report life cycle, but has creatively used EOS administration APIs to permit users to request reports and to monitor their use.
To automate the addition of users to a report distribution list, the company created its own database, accessible by users on their Intranet. It provides a catalogue of all reports available, sorted by business index and also by user, including an example of each document. Newcomers have a full picture of the information available, can easily identify the reports relevant for their jobs and subscribe to the distribution list. When a request for a report is made and approved by the employee’s supervisor through a workflow system, it is automatically sent to the EOS server. The distribution list is automatically updated and the user receives the document the next time it is generated. In addition, EOS database utilities are queried to track whether users are actually viewing their reports. This functionality has resulted in a 20% decrease in the reports generated.
«We are extremely satisfied with the way EOS integrated into our IT infrastructure and with its administration functionality. Only one person is assigned to these tasks, illustrating the minimal resources required» underlines Daniele Valentini, head of the reporting at AXA Italy.
