Geneva, Switzerland – November 26, 2003 – RSD (Roger Software Development) today announced it has entered into a technology agreement with EMC Corporation to integrate RSD’s EOS (Enterprise Output Solution) and RSD Folders report and document management applications with the EMC Centera Content Addressed Storage (CAS) solution. EMC Centera represents an entirely new software-driven storage architecture specifically designed to address the unique information storage requirements of fixed content such as reports, scanned documents, e-mail or voice recordings.

Consistent with its commitment to provide comprehensive solutions that integrate easily in the enterprise computing infrastructure, RSD has partnered with EMC to extend its range of supported storage systems. RSD products now provide a built-in interface that transparently stores data, captured by an RSD server, in a Centera online archive. The end-user benefits from effortless retrieval of all information necessary for business processes via a Web-enabled RSD Thin Client, a customized enterprise application, or an RSD for PC interface.

RSD's functionally-rich solutions guarantee fast and secure access to business critical data within an organization by managing enterprise content. System administrators can flexibly capture data in any format and store it according to the requirements of the enterprise and its environment. The new interface to Centera allows RSD products to seamlessly exploit a storage solution that is widely recognized for its scalability, compliance with industry standards, reduced administration and assurance of data authenticity. This interface requires no special implementation. Setting just two storage parameters within the RSD product creates the dialog with Centera to automatically store and retrieve data. It is available for EOS and RSD Folders running on Unix or Windows server platforms.

"The EMC Centera interface expands our product interoperability" states Alain Després, RSD's Managing Director. "The synergy between our solutions allows our common customers to benefit from optimal document management and storage functionality, incorporated in a simple architecture".

"The integration of EMC and RSD technologies delivers a robust solution addressing the unique requirements of high-volumes of fixed content in terms of flexible management and long-term data retention" says Roy Sanford, EMC Vice President of Content Addressed Storage.

Once relegated to tape archives, optical disks, or file cabinets, fixed content is now being driven online, fueled by regulatory requirements, digitization of industries such as banking or insurance, and the desire to leverage this content into new services and revenue streams. Just as the growth of applications such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) and the explosion of the Web drove the use of Network Attached Storage (NAS) as an enterprise storage strategy, the need to manage, protect and access fixed content is the driving force behind this new category of networked storage called CAS.

Whether electronic business documents, X-Rays or check images, all types of fixed content have three common attributes: long-term value to an organization, the need to remain unchanged, and increased value through fast access with assured content integrity. The EMC Centera network-based storage solution is designed to deliver all three while economically scaling from multiple terabyte to petabyte-sized environments.
