Business information delivery systems are designed around the concept of a business application’s output or data stream, which tends to be a “snapshot,” or “time stamped.” Document and content management solutions are designed around an individual (e.g. a customer or employee) or a case (project, issue, or legal proceeding). They automate the classification of each information asset to support swift access and retrieval across time and across data or document types – including unstructured data like user office files, image data, voice, etc. For example, while a business information delivery system readily supports queries for information based on business application snapshots (“retrieve the August 2002 mobile customer billing report”), a document and content management solution is designed to support queries across data sources and across time (“display all statements, call center records, and email received for customer X”).
