Reports are inserted into the EOS database and are defined and indexed for future retrieval through a capture-attribution procedure. The capture phase:
- Manages the simultaneous capture of reports in different output
formats.
- Divides and attributes captured reports into logical segments
to ensure that end-users access only data that is authorized and
relevant to their tasks.
The distribution phase consists of sending retrieved reports to end-users, or groups of users, as well as printers and/or files. This operation may be performed:
- Either immediately or on a scheduled basis to account for time
sensitive material or to take advantage of periods when demands
on computer resources are lower.
- By an end-user to print lines, pages or specific sections of
a single report or of several reports.
The archive function allows:
- Reports to be archived on any storage media, giving IT departments
the flexibility to store data in a way that meets frequency, access
time and storage cost requirements.
- Immediate restoration of archived reports.
- Elimination of microfiche by utilizing a report indexing system
that provides users with quick access to the information they
need.
- Utilization of advanced storage tech-nologies such as "COLD"
or hierarchical storage management systems.
